Black spot has long been a problem of greater or lesser extent of pineapple in South Africa. The percentage of fruit affected is seasonal and where canning is concerned increases the waste factor. The Hluhluwe production region concentrates on fresh fruit for local export markets and here the problem is more severe as black spot increases considerably after harvest. |
