Blends of poly (o-methoxyaniline)-POMA and poly(vinnylidene fluoride)- PVDF exhibiting electrical conductivity with low contents of conducting polymer were studied by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and conductivity measurements. Flexible, free-standing films were prepared from solution for the these blents in optimized conditions of temperature, solvent and doping. POMA doped with toluenesulfonic acid (TSA) and PVDF were both dissolved in N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMA), at room temperature and 70 graus C, repectively. The solutions were mixed at various compositions of POMA-TSA prior to casting. The blends presented a transition in morphology from spherulites, peculiar of pure PVDF, to fibrils (charcteristic of polyanilines) for increasing POMA-TSA content. The conductivity of blends containing 25% of POMA remained practically unchanged in the range from 10 elevado a menos 3 to 10 elevado a menos 4 S/cm for long periods (500 hours), event after treatment at temperatures of 70 graus C and 90 graus. Thermal analysis demonstrated that no mass loss was observed for the these blends up to temperatures as high as the melting point of PVDF. The crystalline structure characteristic of PVDF is pratically unaffect by the presence of up to 25% of POMA-TSA in the blend. For higher POMA-TSA contents the crystalline diffraction peaks of the conducting polymer begin to apper being of PVDF vanish. These results are consistent with the morphological transsition detected. the effect of blending and thermal treatment on the structure and morphological transition detected. The effect of blendin and thermal treatment on the structure and morphology of the polymers is discussed.
