Response of "Charleston Gray" watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunberg)Matsumara and Nakai) to plant in-row and row spacing, mulch, and fertilizer rate was evaluated in identical experiments at Gainesville and Leesburg. At both locations, early and total fruit yields decreased andfruit size increased as row spacing was increased from 5 to 15-ft and in-row plant spacing from 2 to 8-ft. At Gainesville, early and total yield and fruit size were higher with mulch than without and total yield was higher with 1,500 Ib/acre of 12-7-13 (N-P-K) than with 750 Ib/acre. |
