The recent finding that the growth regulator Amchem 66-329 may acta a stimulator of ethylene production (Warner and Leopold, 1967) prompted us to examine its possible use as an initiator of fruit ripening. Mature gree fruits of bananas (Musa sapientum L.) were obtained from a local supplier and were held at 16 C until used. Fruits were immersed for one hour in an aqueous solution of 1000 ppm Amchem 66-329 and 100 ppm Tween 20 at room temperature. An equivalent fruit sample was subjected to 100 ppm ethylene gas for 24 hours. These treatments were compared to a dry untreated control. |
