The results indicate that DOP accumulated in the liver of grazing sheep in concentrations that are likely to be biologically effective. Use of sewage sludge as a fertiliser was associated with higher concentrations in ewe liver compared with control animals but levels were equally high in liver from both sludge-exposed and control lambs. The long-term consequences of such bioaccumulation for both animal and human health and reproductive function remain to be determined. |
