Heterodera glycines juveniles penetrate the roots of the resistant cultivars Peking, Forrest and Bedford. Syncytia are initiated, but development is terminated early and the syncytia and nematodes die and disintegrate. Cell-wall thickenings, wall appositions, and necrosis are associated with death of the syncytium in Pecking and Forrest. In Bedford, wall thickening and necrosis do not occur, but nuclear degeneration is associated with syncytium death. |
