In those countries of the world which have a serious human brucellosis problem the cause can be traced to heavy infection with Br. melitensis in goats and sheep. Eradication of the disease in the small ruminants in usually not feasible because of the economic and social conditions in these countries. For this reason FAO and WHO have been fostering research on the development of vaccines that could reduce the incidence of Br. melitensis infection in sheep and goats. A brief review of the experiments to date is presented here. |
