Natural infection of citron plants by exocortis was observed under green house conditions. Observations and early tests indicated that neither seed transmision nor an insect vector was involved. The virus was mechanicall transmitted as a contaminant on budding knives, even thoughit was not transmitted by conventional sap-inoculation of leaves. Twenty citron plants became infected as a result of propagation with a contaminated knife. Caution is indicated to prevent spread of exocortis with contaminated tools. |
