Marginal or abandoned farmland is common on working farms throughout the eastern United States. Many of these lands are suitable for planting tree crops, but often the farmer or landowner questions the benefits of a tree crop investment. Using black walnut as an example, this paper explores a scenario representative of a working southern farm. Using the QUICKSILVER software package, an investment analysis is conducted and a sensitivity analysis to alternative stumpage prices is presented. |
