The purpose of this experiment use to study the effect of burning on the ecology of pasture and regrowth of pangola grass. Before burning there were 26 kinds of plant on the pangola pasture containing Digitaria decumbens, Panicum repens, Malvastrum coromandelianum, Polanisia icosandra etc.. However, only 13 kinds of plant were remained after the burning. The results indicate that burning killed some wide-leaf plants such as Phyllanthus urinaria, Aeschnomene indica and Rininus comunis and prevented them from regenaration after burning. All the burning treatments increased the cover ratio of pangola grass by 16-18%, especially that burning on Feb. 2 and May 4 (before raining season coming). Where the burning treatment on March 11 showed no effect on the encouragement of pangola. The burning increased the available potassium (A.K) content in the soil, especially on May 4 plots. The A.K content increased about 300 ppm. On the other hand, there was no effect on total nitrogen and available phosphorus (A.P.). The burning improved the growth and yield of pangola grass, especially burned on May 4, 1987 just before the raining season coming. |
