[Prevalence of antibodies against caseous lymphadenitis in commercial sheep herds in the Federal District, Brazil]. Abstract: The objective of this study was to determinate the seroprevalence of caseous lymphadenitis (CL) in commercial sheep herds in the Federal District, Brazil. One thousand and twenty-eight serum samples were collected, between March and June 2004, from all the properties (32) with at least 20 adult females in the flock. The seroprevalence of caseous lymphadenitis was determined by ELISA with secreted proteins of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. The real prevalence value for the animals was 44.0% (CI 95: 41.0; 47.0), and 50.0% of the 32 herds had at least one animal seropositive for CL. Therefore, these data show that CL is fairly widespread in commercial flocks of sheep in the Federal District. This work presents the results of research on the relationship between the space displacement of the milk production and the change of seasonal variation of the acquisition and industrialization of the product in Brazil. The study showed that the knowledge on the causes of the seasonal variation of the acquisition and industrialization of milk and derivatives can be increased with the relative position of the primary production, without discarding the influence of technological changes and incentives on the reduction of the seasonality of the production. This information is essential for the explanation of the behavior and to forecast values of production and prices. As the acquisition of milk accours in the states of the regions South and Southeastern, mainly, the aggregate information of milk occours in the states of the regions South and Southeastern, mainly, the aggregate information of these regions can serve also as a base for the explanation of price formation in those markets. The information geographically positioned of the primary production revealed the importance of local climatic aspects over seasonal variation. |
