Clitoria ternatea (L.) nodulated and grew well at 25 to 45 percent soil moisture but was severely checked at 15 percent. Light intensity affected nodulation which was optimum at 11.4-17.1 Wm-2 in summer and 11.4 Wm-2 in winter, and the optimum light duration was 11-14 h. Moderate temperatures (27-32oC at 06.00 h, 36-42oC at 14.00 h and 27-30oC at 18.00 h) were more favourable for nodulation and growth than lower and higher temperatures comperable to those prevaing during the winter and summer seasons in the Sudan. Inoculation was beneficial especially when the environmental conditions were favourable for nodulation. |
