Conteúdo:  The bacterial wilt disease caused by Ralstonia solanacearum affects mainly solanaceous species such as potato, eggplant, peppers, tomato and Brazilian gilo (Solanum gilo). The molecular characterization of R. solanacearum biovar 2 as the main objective of this study. Fifty-one biovar 2 isolates were studied (9 eggplant isolates and 42 potato isolates), all of them collected in different regions of Brazil. According to molecular analysis the isolates were clustered in four different groups with distinct banding patterns with the primers BOX and ERIC, and five groups with the primers REP. The identification of potato isolates as the biovar 2-A, and the and eggplant isolates as biovar 2-T were based on biochemical tests using trehalose and was confirmed by molecular analyses. Interesting results, based on molecular data, were observed when the groups of isolates were associated with the geographical region from when they were collected. Group I clustered only the isolates collected in Paraná State. Group II clustered the isolates collected in the State of Bahia, Paraná and Brasília-DF. Group III clustered all isolates of eggplants and only one of potatoes, all of which were collected in Brasília-DF. Group IV, like group II, clustered isolates from different States (Paraná, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul and Brasília-DF). These results suggest a relationship between the isolates clustered through molecular analysis in groups I and III and the geographical region where they were collec... Mostrar Tudo
