Instead Mexico has large irrigation systems, due to historical reasons, there is a lack of measurement devices. Actually, with a new watter conservation policy that includes the volumetric water delivery, a large number of measurement structures are needed. In order to solve this problem, a volumetric measurement device has been designed, wich is formed of a longthroat flume as the primary element and with an electronic totalizer with solar energy that produces the volumetric output. The longthroat flumes has some important advantages: a quite versatile geometry useful in the majority of the irrigation channels, their construction and operation are very simple and it can be analytically calibrated. Nevertheless, its design and calibration is not an easy task (boundary layer equations are needed). Hence a computer program has been produced, which has been used both for design and technology transfer purposes. Thanks to their use, actually there are these measurement devices in more of the largest irrigation system in Mexico. In this paper, the software for computer assisted design of longthroat flumes is presented, and their use as a technology transfer tool through training courses, are described. Finally, conclusions and recommendations are presented. |
