Recent taxonomic investigation of the suprageneric classification of the Cyperaceae has made clarification of the nomenclature an urgent necessity. A list of the effectively published suprageneric names attributable to the Cyperaceae is presented here, with an indication of their nomenclatural status. For this purpose, a dichotomous identification key was constructed. Attention is drawn to various problems concerning the interpretation of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature with regard to the names of suprageneric taxa. Finally, two new tribes are described, Eleocharideae and Trilepideae. |
