Boron is an essential micronutrient for normal mango production (GUAGGIO, 1996).The physiological function of born is still unknown, making it one of the least understood of all plant nutrients (Davenport and Nunez-Elisa, 1998). Boron deficiency affects the vegetative growth and the reproduction. Boron-deficient mango presented depressed growth, chlorosis of yong leaves and necrosis of growing points (Agarwala et al., 1998). In flowers, generally low boron reduces male fertility primarily by impairing microsporogenesis and pollen tube growth. Post-fertilization effects include impaired embryogenesis, resulting in seed abortion ot the formation of incomplete or damaged embryos and malformed fruits ( Dell and Huang, 1997). The application of boron improves the mango fruit retention ( Singh and Dhillon, 1987). Boron deficiency in mango has been associated with internal fruit necrosis, taper tip and tip pulp (Samra and Arora, 1998). The and objectives of this work is to study the response to boron application, of four mango varieties grafted on three different rootstocks, cultivated on a boron deficient soil. |
