Knowledge of the chemical composition of plants from Brazilian Cerrados is, considering the vast extention of these drylands, disproportionally slight. On evidence presented in three case studies it is predicted that it will turn out to be extraordinarily diversified, if compared with the chemistry of the adjoining rainforests. Hence, in view of progressive population pressure on these drylands, it is urged to priorize the scrutiny of their plant metabolites. |
