The upper Taquari River basin (BAT) has an area of 28.452 km2 and presents serious problems of soil hydrological erosion. The evaluation of the erosion processes will drive future actions to minimize the soil erosion in the BAT and the consequences to the Pantanal. The average annual precipitation erosivity was of 7.914,3 Mj mm ha-1 year-1. The average soil erodibility was 0,0356 t h Mj-1. The topographic factor "LS" presented the higher range. The average soil loss potential was 555,6 t ha-1 year-1. In 1994, 41,97% (1.194.130 ha) of the BAT was covered by native vegetation, the cultivated pastures covered 51.85% of the basin surface (1.475.290 ha) and the soybean plantation areas was 167.650 ha (5,89% of the BAT). The average soil loss for the whole upper Taquari basin from 1994, was estimated as 70,39 t ha-1 year-1, classified as high erosion level. The light erosion level occurred in 41,62% of the BAT. In 28.84% of the basin the erosion level was moderated, in 21,75% was high and in 7,79 was very high. |
