The objective of the present study was to assess the technological and nutritional quality of seven early common bean cultivars and nine lines. An experiment in completely randomized blocks was carried out in three locations in the wet 2001/2002 growing season. One hundred gram samples were collected from each material at physical maturity to estimate the grain technological and nutritional characteristics and also the weight of 1000 seeds, shape and degree of seed flattening were assessed by the J and H coefficient, respectively. The joint analysis of variance showed significant genotype and environment effect at 1% probability. The genotype x environment interactions was significant at 1% probability for all the characteristics assessed except for the weight of 1000 seeds and the coefficient. Cooking time showed positive phenotypic and genotypic correlation with percentage of whole grains after cooking, wight of 1000 seeds and seed shape, indicating the possibility of simultaneous selection among these chacacteristics. However, the total solids in the sauce correlated negatively with these traits that are desirable in the industrial processes of the common bean. |

Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi a identificação das barreiras técnicas de cunho protecionista contra a exportação de vinhos brasileiros e a percepção dos produtores diante dessas possíveis limitações. O método adotado foi o qualitativo exploratório, conduzido por meio de entrevistas em profundidade presenciais com gestores do mercado vinícola e com instituições públicas brasileiras. Embora a investigação tenha comprovado a existência de diversas barreiras técnicas, ainda não é possível medir seu impacto, por causa da reduzida diversidade de destinos das exportações brasileiras. No entanto, o crescimento gradual das exportações nacionais de vinho e o maior reconhecimento do Brasil como produtor qualificado desse produto sugerem a necessidade de preparar as empresas para enfrentarem tais barreiras. Even though the research revealed the existence of several technical barriers to wine trade, its implications are not yet tangible due to the reduced diversity of the Brazilian export destinations. The paper concludes that the growth of the Brazilian wine exports and the gradual acknowledgment of Brazil as a qualified wine producer suggest the need to prepare the national companies to face the existing technical barriers.
