A agricultura na China passa por um processo de transição acelerado, resultado do empenho do seu governo em garantir a segurança alimentar para cerca de 1,4 bilhão de habitantes. Com recursos naturais escassos, a China priorizou ciência, tecnologia e inovação para enfrentar o grande desafio do desenvolvimento sustentável das suas áreas rurais. Várias reestruturações foram feitas em questões agrárias, como o direito de uso e leasing da terra, bem como nas indústrias estratégicas, quanto aos setores de sementes, biotecnologia e processamento. A China renovou suas políticas agrícolas, diversificou a agricultura e vem investindo em novos sistemas de irrigação e cultivo protegido, em especial em culturas de maior valor agregado, como a de frutas e hortaliças. Com o objetivo de aumentar a inserção do produtor rural no novo mundo digital, grandes investimentos vêm sendo realizados na instalação de tecnologia 4G na zona rural, além de treinamento dos produtores rurais em tecnologias da informação, como online banking, em compra e venda de produtos em plataformas digitais. Como resultado, a China alcançou o patamar da produção mundial, com mais de 500 milhões de toneladas de grãos e tubérculos nos últimos dez anos. Além disso, o governo chinês estimula intensamente a inserção de suas estatais no mercado agrícola global, com o objetivo principal de assegurar o controle da produção de alimentos/grãos a serem importados pelo país. |

Abstract: Understanding global biodiversity change, its drivers, and the ecosystem consequences requires a better appreciation of both the factors that shape soil macrofauna communities and the ecosystem effects of these organisms. The project ?sOilFauna? was funded by the synthesis center sDiv (Germany) to address this major gap by forming a community of soil ecologists, identifying the most pressing research questions and hypotheses, as well as conducting a series of workshops to foster the global synthesis and hypothesis testing of soil macrofauna. The overarching goal is to analyze the most comprehensive soil macrofauna database - the MACROFAUNA database - which collates abundance data of 17 soil invertebrate groups assessed with a standardized method at 7180 sites around the world, and seeks to foster the collection of future data. In a recent kick-off workshop in May 2022, the first research priorities and collaboration guidelines were determined. Here, we summarize the main outcomes of this workshop and highlight the benefits of creating an open global community of soil ecologists providing standardized soil macrofauna data for future research, evaluation of ecosystem health, and nature protection. |
