Pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) haploid plant production could bring a significant advance to genetics and breeding in this species. Results about pineapple anther callus formation are given for the firsttime. The influence of two sucrose concentrations and six Dicamba (3,6 dichloro-metoxy-benzoic acid)/BAP (6 Benzyl-aminopurine) combinations and two culture conditions on four pineapple genotypes is studied in this paper. Compact and globular calluses were successfully formed mainly at the place of anther remotion. There was a notable response to anther culture in every genotype tested. The highest frequencies of callus formation were recorded in Oriente Smooth Cayenn and Red Spanish cultivars in cultural media containing 9% sucrose in the dark and a Dicamba/BAP ratio of 2.0:0.4 and 2.5:0.5mg.L-1 respectively. |
