Correlations were established between data obtained by "Thornthwaite" type evapotranspirometers on a ten days basis, at Ribeirao Preto (State of Sao Paulo, Brazil - Lat. 21 graus 11' S and the corresponding values estimated by Penman's and Thornthwaite's methods. The totals of potential evapotranspiration for 27 decendials were: measuremed: 898mm; computed: Penman, 917mm; Thornthwaite, 816mm. It can be observed that the latter underestimated by about 9% the potential evapotranspirationof the period. The results obtained by Penman's method were far closerto the measured data, overestimating them by only 2%. The correlation coefficients between computed and measured data, on a ten day basis, were the following: Penman's, r = 0.95** and Thornthwaite, r = 0.84**. |
