Differential furrow-irrigation treatments were applied to Washington Navel orange orchard from 1934 to 1957. The experimental trees studied in the orchard were on sweet orange rootstocks, Water was supplied to trees on either a frequent or infrequent or interval. In the latter part of the experiment this interval was 3- or 6-weeks. In the spring of 1957 root samples were taken to a depth of 4 feet. The trees which had been irrigated on a frequent interval produced fewer deep than the trees which were irrigated on an infrequent interval. |
