Bovine infestation by tick Rhipicephalus microplus determines loss in meat and milk production. Besides spreading disease to animals and compromising the quality of hide. The control of this parasite by carrapaticides has been limited due to tick resistance to these substances, several times used without discernment. Farmers Small of Mato Grosso do Sul, State Brazil, using medicinal plants for control of ticks on their bovine herd. In this project, studying the experience of these producers will be done through research-based ethnopharmacology. The plants will be selected according to the knowledge of farmers. The botanic materials will be collected, safe-guarded and identified. The extraction will be performed in alcohol and water, after kiln drying. The determination of the effectiveness of the extracts will be made based on in vitro tests of susceptibility of engorged females. Will be assessed for egg laying and hatching of larvae, and the mortality of the larvae will be measured through tests of larval sensitivity. For production of engorged females and larvae of ticks, Taurino-zebu crossbred calves are artificially infested with larvae of R. microplus. The extracts that present promising results in related to proposed model will be submitted to fractionation, and the various fractions will be re-evaluated. The active fraction will be characterized by chromatography. The identification of phytotherapics for effective control of ticks on cattle may contribute to the sustainable development of livestock, to food security, and reduction of waste in the milk and meat, with improvement in public health.
