N rate rather than sowing rate was the major factor affecting oat forage yield, N yield and N recovery under both rain-fed and irrigated conditions on a black earth at Gatton, SE Queensland. In 1971-3 response to N was linear up to 67.2 (irrigated) and 33.6 (rain-fed) kg N/ha when defoliated. Most efficient DM production (kg DM/kg applied N) was at 16.8 kg N/ha after defoliation under both moisture regimes. |
