Establishing a total merit index, relative economic weights of the traits considered must be
known. Hence, the objective of this study was to derive economic weights for essential traits in dairy sheep based on a herd model. A sheep herd with milk production, lamb fattening and rearing of young sheep for replacement was simulated. The following economic weights per ewe place and year and genetic standard deviation were derived: 21.45 ? (carrier yield), 10.73 ? (fat yield), 21.25 ? (protein yield); 0.53 ? (daily gain), 3.03 ? (dressing percentage), 1.13 ? (EUROP-grading score), 3.25 ? (longevity), 0.60 ? (litter size), 2.93 ? (stillbirth), 3.48 ? (losses before first mating), 5.35 ? (lambing interval) and 1.13 ? (lambing ease). Relative economic weights for the trait complexes were in %: dairy : meat : functional traits = 71.4 : 6.3: 22.3, respectively. |
