Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been used to investigate the morphology of ultra-thin films of parent polyaniline (PAni) prepared via the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The LB film was readily obtained in the doped state, by using an acidic subphase and a pre-doped polymer. A well-defined, fibrillar-like structure was obserced by AFM, indicating some preferential orientation of the PAni fibrils. These fibrils are approximately 60 to approximately 160nm wide with porous of apparent height of approximately 1nm, consistent with a more compact and less porous morphology when compared to conventional thicker films. |
