Conteúdo:  Auburn University has developed an integrated pest management model that predicts the profitability of soybean management practices. The model begins with a file that ranks ca. 120 cultivars according to maturity group, relative productivity, and susceptibility to nematodes and diseases. Potential yields of optimal cultivars are calculated given the location, soil type, planting date, rotation, and pest histories of the field. In the initial procedures, nematode yields are adjusted accordingly. As the season progresses, submodels are utilized for management of plant disease and insect pests. These models integrate soybean plant growth data, population dynamics, pesticide efficacy, data, weather data, effects of weather on pest populations and pesticide efficacy, and crop loss functions. The effectiveness of any practice is compared to its cost. Submodels are linked by a core program wich passes potential yield and crop value through the season, accumulating changes in yiel potential, crop value, and management costs. AUSIMM was tested throughout Alabama in 1986 and 1987 with 36 field experiments. The model improved grower net profits and decreased risks over local practices in ca. 70% of all tests. Profit increases were primarily due to reduced pesticide applications and the use of resistant cultivars.
