A few years ago, when the Green Revolution was being heralded as the imminent solution to the wourld food problem, noboby would have predicted that its boffins would one day study the practices of peasant farmers in the hope of picking up some useful tips. Yet two members of the international Rice Research institute (IRRI), Gordon Banta and Dr Dick Harwood, have been observing the techniques of one the more consistently productive barrios in the Philippines to find out how they do it. |
