The trend toward field shelling of hig moisture corn has been accompanied by high levels of Kernel damage caused by the impact shelling action of the conventional shelling machines. One way to reduce shelling damage is to use machinery that handles the ears and kernels in a more gentle manner and hence causes less damage.
In this research, machines were designed and constructed in which the ears were shelled one by one in line instead of in random groups as they are in the conventional shelling machines. Also the kernels were shelled individually so that only very small forces were needed to remove the kernels. |
