A variance component approach for quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping was proposed by George et al. (2000), which assumes a mixed inheritance model (polygenes and QTL effects). This approach allows for mapping QTL in general pedigrees from outbreed populations. In this method, besides the use of an additive relationship matrix to estimate the additive polygenic effects, an identical-by-descent (IBD) matrix is used to estimate the QTL effect and its variance. Analyses of the association of genetic markers with economic traits in beef cattle have been mainly reported in developed countries. In the Brazilian Canchim breed, studies found association of polymorphism in the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1), growth hormone (GH) and specific pituitary transcriptions (PIT1) genes with growth traits (Pereira et al. (2005), Andrade et al. (2008) and Carrijo et al. (2008)). However, no studies were found that used the variance component approach to estimate the genetic variance due to these genes, or QTLs linked to them, in Canchim cattle. The objective of this study was to estimate the proportion of phenotypic variance of growth and reproductive traits that are explained by polymorphisms in the IGF1, GH and PIT1 genes in Canchim cattle. |

Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do estresse térmico por calor no escore de saúde e dias em diarreia em bezerros leiteiros. O estudo foi conduzido sob delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Foram utilizados 35 animais distribuídos em dois tratamentos: i) controle (17 bezerros) – os animais mantidos em zona termoneutra em câmara climática desde o nascimento com índice de temperatura e umidade (ITU) de 66,1 ± 3,25 durante 24 h/dia em todo o período experimental (30 dias) e ii) estresse térmico por calor (ETC; 18 bezerros) – os animais foram mantidos na câmara climática desde o nascimento com temperatura média de 30 °C e umidade de 65% (ITU= 82,7 ± 1,39) durante nove horas (6h31min às 15h30min). Após esse período, a temperatura foi reduzida para 21 °C e a umidade mantida em 65% (Zona termoneutra [(ZT); seis machos e 11 fêmeas] com índice de temperatura e umidade (ITU) 66 por 15 h/dia durante todo o período experimental. O escore de saúde e dias em diarreia não foram influenciados pelos tratamentos (P > 0,05). O estresse térmico por calor não altera os escores nasais, oculares e de fezes. Ademais, o estresse térmico por calor não aumenta os dias em diarreia em bezerros leiteiros. |
