Five years Old orange, were grafted on Cleopatra scions of nine clutivars planted in a competely randomized block design were evaluated. fruit growths presented three typical of variable lenght, depending on the cultivar: slow, rapid and stable growth rates. Largest growth were observed in the Old Vini. Valencia and Valle Washington cultivars. In all cases total soluble solid contents and acidity increased, up to certain point, with fruit age. Considering that the op timum time to iniciate cropping is when the relationship between solids and acidity is 9.5:1, the earlient cultivar is Valle Washisgton (7.5 months) white the Old Australian Navel are intermediate and Garcia Valencia is late. All cultivars had solid content above 50% and attactive pulp color. Mostatractive rind color was found in the Parson Brown (97.5 yellow), the rest fluctuated 48 and 79%. All cultivars had less than six seeds per fruit. there were cropping seasons. Largest producers (Hamlin Garcia Valencia and Pineapple) had the largests monthy variation, marketing 90% for industrial purposes and 10% for as fresh product the best cultivars were Pineapple, Hamlin, Parson, Brown, Valle Washington and Old Vini. |
