Bi-weekly weights, feed intake and age were recorded on 149 growing pigs fed with 2 kinds of ration. The relationships of body weight with daily feed intake, daily gain feed efficiency and age with body weight are presented. From the analyses of variance and t-tests, most of the groups (27 out of 28) showed a significant relationship between body weight and daily feed intake, with 13 being linear regression lines, 2 baing parabolic and 7 being cubic, out of 28 treatment combinations. The significant relationship between body weight and gain show that out 6 out of 17 groups of animals fed ration 1, had regression lines as follows: 3 being linear and 3 being parabolic. Similar relationships are found in 5 out of 11 groups of animals fed ration 2,with 4 regression lines being linear and 1 parabolic. Most of the animals fed ration 1 (10 out of 17 groups) showed a significant and positive relationship between body weight and feed efficiency (F/G), with 8 regression lines being linear and 2 parabolic. All animals fed ration 2 did not show a significant relationship between these two traits. All groups showed a significant relationship between age and body weight with 19 regression lines being linear, 7 parabolic and 2 and cubic. The mean intercepts of feed intake, daily gain and feed efficiency with body weight are .92 kilogram, .30 kilogram, and 2.40 respectively while between age and body weight it was -23.21 kilogram. |
