The study responds to the demand for the cultivation of exploited native tree species of the Amazon for high quality timber production in plantations. The relationship of the light availability, the water and nutrient content of the soil, the net photosynthesis and the biomass production of one to eight-year-old Swietenia macrophylla King (true mahogany), Carapa guianensis Aubl. (Andiroba), and Cedrela odorata L. (Cedro) was invetigated on natural sites and in plantations in the states of Amazonas, Para, and Mato Grosso, Brazil. |
