Seasonal variation of nutrients in mango (Mangifera indica) trees in three soils of the Dry Pacific Regional Costa Rica. II. Micronutrients. The nutritional status and the seasonal variation of Mn, Zn, Fe, Cu and B was evaluated in mango trees of three different soils in the Dry Pacifc region of Costa Rica: Ustic Humitropept (Atenas), Typic Distropept (Orotina), and Typic Ustropept (Liberia). The objective was to determine the nutritional condition of the orchards, according to the concentrations of the nutrents in the soil and throughout the year. Leaf samples of three diferrent ages were included (New Tissue, which corresponded to the last growth flush in the outside of the branch, Intermediate Tissue which corresponded to the second growth flush from the outside of the branch, and Old Tissue, which corresponded to the third growth flush from the outside). The study was done in the most important mango varieties for export from Costa Rica: "Irwin" and "Tommy Atkins". All of the studied nutrients behaved as inmovile elements within the tree, and were found in higher concentrations in cv. "Tommy Atkins" than cv. "Irwin". B deficiencies were found in Atenas and Orotina, where the soil B contents were low. Zn deficiencies were found in the three studied orchards, which also corresponded to low contents in the soils. |
