Based on the pH-solubility relationship of the soil phosphates when compared with those of known phosphate minerals (4,25,26,28.29,32), it is generally accepted that the inorganic phosphates are dominantly bonded to calcium in calcareous soils, and mainly bonded to aluminum or iron in acid soils. Based on his study on the fate of the phosphate fertilizer applied to two Rothansted soils, Dean (9) suggested that acidsoluble phosphate increased in calcareous soils and that the alkali-soluble phosphate increased in acid soils. |
