Barley ranks fourth among the most important cereal crops globally, behind wheat, rice, and maize, and plays a vital role in sustaining populations worldwide. It is widely recognized as the preferred raw material for beer production, various grain blends, and animal feed. The objective of this study was to analyze and identify the genetic similarity among barley genotypes intended for beer production and determine the polymorphism content obtained from molecular markers as support for breeding programs aimed at malt barley. The barley cultivars and lineages BRS Farewell, BRS Brau, PFC 2017085, PFC 2018177, BRS Korbel, PFC 2018144, BRS Cauê, BRS Kolinda, ABI Rubi, and ABI Valente were analyzed using 11 molecular markers. The Polymorphism Information Content (PIC) coefficient ranged from 0.17 to 0.75, representing a useful strategy for determining the similarity and molecular polymorphism among the analyzed genotypes. Therefore, the complexity in identifying molecular markers poses a significant challenge due to the complex genetic inheritance and the influence of environmental factors. The accuracy in sample categorization is strongly dependent on a robust approach that employs a greater number of molecular markers. |
