Microscopic analysis (by light, SEM and TEM) of host and fungal changes during the cycle of infection revealed changes similar to those already reported for herbaceous and woody plant hosts. Intercellular hyphae were rare and vesicles were not observed. The beaded root morphology observed did not seem to influence the infection process. The living arbuscle seemed to be the site of transfer between host and endophyte, implying that the process is an active one. |
