Long-term preservation of research data is crucial to the advancement of science and to the exchange of knowledge. On the other hand, providing data services is complex in terms of its implementation, cultural barriers and issues related to its evolution and updating. The objective of this work is to present the challenges for the sustainability, maintenance and evolution of GeoInfo, an institutional repository for spatial agricultural data at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation. We explore technical, institutional and cultural issues regarding spatial data management and our efforts to sustain GeoInfo as a contribution to promoting a paradigm shift towards spatial data sharing and reuse. |
