Bananas (Musa spp.) are among the 10 most important foods produced worldwide, with Brazil occupying the third position with approximately 6.8 million metric tons produced, representing US$3.4 billion annually. During a survey carried out in banana production areas in the state of Minas Gerais, soil and root samples were collected in Jaíba County. Roots showed characteristic symptoms of infection by root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne), such as gall formation and yellowing of leaves. Females and males were handpicked from infested roots and second-stage juveniles (J2) hatched from egg masses incubated in water at 25°C. Morphological and biochemical characterization was made.[...]. |
