In this study, we investigated degraded, partially degraded, and preserved semiarid Luvisols in northeastern Brazil to determine soil C and N stocks, as well as abundance of some total and functional genes, microbial biomass and activity, phosphatase alkaline activity and the glomalin content. We hypothesize that degraded Luvisols have significant reduction in C and N stocks, abundance, and activity of total bacteria and fungi, diazotroph and phosphorus-mineralizing bacteria in relation to preserved or partially degraded Luvisols. |
