The objective of the present work was to characterize 26 banana accessions from the germplasm bank at Embrapa Cassava Tropical Fruits (Brazil) using agronomi-cal, physical and physical-chemical characteristics of fruits and SSR markers. Most agronomical characteristics, especially for number of fruits and weight of bunch, presented broad variability. Regarding the physical and physical-chemical evalua-tions of fruits, accessions with high levels of carotenoids (Jaran diploid), polyphe-nols (Caipira triploid and Teparod tetraploid) and vitamin C (Tuugia diploid and unknown AAA triploid), were identified. For the microsatellites, 13 primers re-vealed an average of 7.23 alleles, also presenting broad variability. Considering the distance matrices obtained from the agronomical, physical and physical-chemical analysis of fruits and SSR markers, a dendrogram was elaborated using the Gower algorithm. Adopting the average genetic divergence as the cut-off point, three clus-ters were formed: G1 formed by the Jaran, 028003-01 and M-48 diploids; G2 by the Malbut and Ido 110 diploids and G3 by 21 tri- and tetraploid accessions, including a ?Tuugia? diploid. The triploids with the B genome; Thap Maeo, Walha, Pacha Nadan and Champa Madras, were grouped in G2. Results from this work can be used in genetic breeding aiming the development of hybrids with good agronomical characteristics and fruit quality. |
