Evaluation of five chemical treatments for the control of Erwinia sp. in mango fruits, varety tommy Atkins, in Turrubares, Costa Rica. A bacterial diseasse caused by Erwinia sp. affcts the mango production in Costa Rica and may produce losses above 50% of the harvested fruits. A trial was conducted in Turrubares, at 100 masl, to evaluate five chemical treatments for the control of the disease in mango fruits variety Tommy Atkins. Starting before blooming, nine foliar sprays (at 2-week intervals) were applied to the tees with Kilol L DF-100, Bravo C/M, Phyton-27, and Bordeaux Mixture, While four sprays of Agrimycin 500 were followed by five of Daconil 500 F, at rates of 2.5ml, 11.4 g, 0.5 ml, 5.0 g, 2.0 g and 5.0 ml/liter of water, respectively. The best results were obtained with Bordeaux Mixture (incidence of 23.5% of fruits with the bacterial disease) and Phyton-27 (24.0% icidence), in comparison with controls (46.3% icidence). Sprays of Agrimycin 500 followed by Daconil 500 F, well as Kilol L DF-100 and Bravo C/M, had no effect on controlling the disease. |
