This study compares the effect of high forest and first coppice systems on the productivity of Eucalyptus botryoides, E. camaldulensis, E. citriodora, E. paniculata, and E. propinqua. Seedlings were planted in a block design on red yellow distrophic latosol in Vicosa, Minas Gerais, using 3 x 2 meter spacing. After harvesting the trees six years later, form factors and consequent volumes were determined for both systems. For the high forest system, Eucalyptus botryoides, E. citriodora, and E. paniculata showed greater productivity, with Eucalyptus botryoides definitely superior. For the coppice system, Eucalyptus citriodora, showed the most productivity and mean annual increment. The behavior of Eucalyptus paniculata was similar in both systems, but was inferior to Eucalyptus botryoides and Eucalyptus citriodora. Based on these results, Eucalyptus citriodora is best for longer rotations. |
