The dynamics of the Gama (undisturbed) and the Capetinga gallery forest (periodically burned) were compared in Fazenda Agua Limpa-DF (15o56' to 15o59'S and 47o55' to 47o58'W) in the Cerrado Biosphere Reserve. They were sampled with uniform methodology. The sampling system was systematic with permanent plots measured every three years from 1983 in Capetinga forest and from 1985 in Gama forest. The trees were identified and their dbh, bole height and total height were measured. Diversity was high, Shannon's index was 3.54 for Capetinga and 3.87 for Gama forest. Floristic similarity was high, with Sorensen's index (0.623) and Morisita's index (0.709) between the two forests. Diameter distribution over the years was similar even in the Capetinga forest. The fire seemed to promote a qualitative change, favoring pioneer species, rather than impeding the natural regeneration. The proportion of pioneers was higher in the Capetinga (11%) than in Gama forest (3%). Changes were more intense for Capetinga than for Gama forest, probaly due to the repeated burning of the latter. |
