Forest lands are a very important source of grazing for cattle in southern Alabama, but the proper coordination of cattle grazing with timber- growing requires information on forage growth under various forest conditions. This paper reports the initial results of a study of forage pro- duction as influenced by timber stand, tree litter, forest types, and soils on the Escambia Experi- mental Forest, near Brewton, Alabama. The ap- plication of these results is mainly in terms of grazing capacity and forest range management. |
