C. aBotanal - a compreehensive sampling and computing procedure for estimating pasture yield and composition. I.Field sampling. aQueensland: CSIROc1978 a20 p. a(CSIRO. Tropical Agronomy Technical Memorandum, 8). aThis paper outlines a field sampling procedure combining the dry-weight-rank method of estimating relative species composition ('t Mannetje and Haydock 1963) with the compara- tive yield method for estimating dry matter yield of pasture (haydock and Shaw 1975). Since these two estimates may be carried out on the same samples, they combine to pro- vide considerable advantages in both sampling efficiency and applicability to large scale studies, and computational efficiency. However there is considerable flexibility in the com- putational package/so that not only can a variety of types of yield estimate be used but also data covering several attributes (e.g. yield and frequency) can be collected simulta- neously for separate computations. Detais of the computational procedure for BOTANAL are dealt with in a subsequent paper of this series. aMatéria Seca aPastagem aBotanal aComposicao aComposition aDry matter aPasture1 aHARGREAVES, J.
