A. aEstimates of carrying capacity of the Nhecolandia sub-region rangelands, Pantanal. c2003 aPresently, almost all land in the Pantanal comprises privately owned beef farms. In recent years, conserving the Pantanal has been an important task due to the high biodiversity, interesting flora and fauna and scenic beauty. Management actions should therefore attempt to define strategies to maintain and/or sustain the biology, health and productivity of the Pantanal ecosystems in long term. Sustainable management of native pastures is essential to attain these objectives. Santos et al. (2001) evaluated the use of different landscape units by cattle for grazing in the Nhecolandia sub-region, Pantanal and observed that animals mainly used the grazing soites located in open grasslands and lowlands (edge of permanent ponds, temporary ponds and lowlands). Thus animal distributions and estimates of habitatcarrying capacity may take into consideration the proportion of the landscape units present within an area. In this context, the work aimed to describe the monthly fluctuations in carrying capacity of an area in the Pantanal based on productivity and selection of forages in the landscape units preferred by the cattle in the Nhecolandia sub-region. abeef cattle aBrazil aPantanal aGado de Corte aEstimates of carrying capacity aSub-regiao da Nhecolandia1 aCOSTA, C.1 aCRISPIM, S.
