S. aTrypanosomosis due to trypanosoma evansi in the Pantanal, Brazil. c1995 aEquine trypanosomosis caused by Trypanosoma evansi is known in the Old World as Surra in the Pantanal and subtropical areas of Argentina as "Mal de Caderas". Apparently, the disease entered the Pantanal region in the 1850's but until the 1930's no effective drug treatment was available. Therefore, ranchers regularly had to important horses from other regions, resulting in high mortality caused by T. evansi. "Mal de Caderas" gas been reported in horses in the Nhecolandia subregion of Pantanal since 1894. aPantanal aTrypanosoma evansi aEqüino aEquine aTrypanosomosis1 aHERRERA, H. M.1 aBARROS, A. T.
