A. aMachines for harvesting citrus fruit. c1978 aThe performance of three types of harvesting machines on Valencia oranges in discussed. The machines were a butt shaker (J. M. Adrian peach harvester), an experimental limb shaker (Fridley Shaker), and a prototype air shaker. The direct-attachmet shaking machines proved more effective than the air shaker, with the Fridley achieving better removals than the J. M. Adrian. All machines were more effective as the mature fruit abscission force was reruced. The air harvester was the most sensitive machine to changes in fruit abscission force. aCitrus Sinensis aAbscission chemical aAbscission force aAir shaker aButt shaker aLimb shaker1 aHUTTON, R.
